Tipping off the maids service

I heard that in the US it is custom to tip a lot. I learned about tipping the servers at meals. I am confuse about tipping off the maids service who purify the rooms. We have a 15 day stay and tips will be high price for our length of time. How much US dollars is good for tips? 5 US dollar a day?

What also about tips should I know? Do I give tips to the airport Magical Express Service?

Tipping off the maids service

In the US, the average tip for the maids is $2 or $3 per day, unless you really mess up your room badly. It%26#39;s better to tip them daily than to figure the total and leave it on the last day, because you don%26#39;t get the same maid every day. If they don%26#39;t provide tip envelopes for you to use, the best place to leave the tip is lying on the pillow of your bed when you leave the room for the day. Then they know the money is intended for them, instead of just left behind by accident. If you have a person assist you with your luggage to the room at the hotel, it is generally accepted to tip $1 per bag (a little more if your bags are very heavy). If you order room service, the tip/gratuity is normally included in the bill, and you aren%26#39;t required to tip extra. I haven%26#39;t used Magical Express since I always drive, so someone else will have to help you there.

That should read ';Tipping the Maid Service';

Just helping with the English.

Most time you don%26#39;t see the maid service as they only service the room when you are not in it. You generally don%26#39;t have to tip the maids unless you are making special request like laundry service.

At Restaurant鈥檚 you can tip 15 to 20%. If I see a service charge on the bill I tip 10%. If there is no service charge I tip 15 to 20%. Its hard to say how much a day will be your tips because it all depends on where you eat. To don鈥檛 tip at fast food places. Well you don鈥檛 have to.

I%26#39;ve never tipped the maid service but maybe fla4fun if right. Then again I have stayed in a hotel for a long time. I%26#39;m usually in a timeshare resort.

';Then again I have NOT stayed in a hotel for a long time.';

Sorry I%26#39;m typing to fast.

Tipping in general:

Tip based off of the service you receive! Good service, tip well. Bad service, tip lower. Feel free to observe what others are doing, or ask if you don%26#39;t know.

The following is my PERSONAL guideline:

Cab or bus drivers: no less than $5

Bellman at the hotel, who will carry your luggage to your room: no less than $5

Tip more if they offer you advice on the area or if you have a lot of luggage.

Waitress or server at a dine in restaurant: anything less than 15% of your bill is an insult. It means you had very BAD service. Good service tip 20% of the cost of your bill. Look closely at your bill, some restaurants include the tip. In general the tip will not be included unless you have 6 or more people in your party.

*Please note that restaurant servers only make a wage a little more than $3.00 an hour!!! Unlike those listed above, they rely almost entirely on tips!

I personally have only tipped the maid service in the event that they have gone beyond the call of duty. Some resorts instruct the maids to not take ANYTHING out of the room. Ask the front desk about the tipping suggestion when you check in.

Hope that helps!

Although I have tipped the maids for several years, anyone who doesn%26#39;t should read the article that was in USA Today a few months ago. It was kind of a ';day in the life of'; article about what the maids go through on a daily basis. I imagine if you search their website you can still find the article. It was a real eye opener.

kobolus: (and others who can help to answer)

I%26#39;m staying at Old Key West resort on Disney Vacation Club points. I guess that is considered time share...do I tip the maid here? I was told they only do a ';trash and tidy'; of the rooms one time in a stay of less than 5 nights (which will be us). I most likely will have to ask for more towels on the second night. Would you suggest I leave tips for the maids? I%26#39;ve never stayed on a timeshare property and don%26#39;t know how this works.

A Happy New Year to all our readers - Welcome back friends and loved ones.

Here we go --tipping is King.

Dvan - do you know what you are starting her. I personally am a fabulous tipper as everyone on this forum knows.

I was converted at the end of 2005 and I now give the server 10% max if the service has been excellent. If it has been poor - I run for it because I will not have tipped and then the waiters and waitresses are out to get you.

My tip never go back if you do not tip because they have got long memories and will find a way of settling up with a cheapskate.

I believe what is written on this forum and that message came therough loud and clear!!!

Vegas, I hope I am not stirring up troubles again.

I plan on tipping 20% for good service and lesser for poor services. I do not expect them to polish my shoes or anything of the sorts for a good tip.

I will give 1 US dollar per bag that the luggage man carries and 5 US dollar to the airport service driver.

Do I tip for the bus drive who will bring us from Grand Florida to the parks?

Dvan

Don%26#39;t start Vegas off on tipping, he%26#39;s a legend !

can see your next post coming already,%26#39;Thinking of coming via UK, How are TCD ?%26#39;
