Need To Be Close to Universal

Going to Universal for a Sat. night concert in March and want a hotel very close as we will not be renting a car. Was told by original hotel booked on Universal Blvd. (Springhill Suites by Marriott)that cab is at least $10 one way. And they seem to be in an isolated area as far as convenience stores, etc. goes. Also looked at Crowne Plaza Universal but they give free ear plugs so I see a problem there. Do not want to stay on Universal properties as we like to spend our money on food and drinks but would like a very clean and convenient hotel. Is Doubletree OK for a few nights as Holiday Inn has received such bad reviews even though we have stayed in their suites with no problems last year. But I can get Doubletree 1/2 the price. Will move on to a Disney hotel for rest of vacation as it seems to be hard to find a hotel that goes to both Disney and Universal. Any info again is very much appreciated.

Try the Homewood Suites Orlando Universal. It is a very nice hotel that would be an excellent choice. The rooms are clean, spacious 2-room suites and a free hot breakfast buffet is served daily. The hotel is close to Universal Studios and provides a shuttle to there, as well as to Sea World and Wet N Wild. Unfortunately the shuttle doesn%26#39;t go to Disney World. Otherwise, I think that this hotel would be perfect for you.

I assume when you say Doubletree, you mean the one on Kirkman Road right across from the main entrance to Universal? It%26#39;s fine. Keep in mind that if your concert is after hours, you will probably still need to taxi back and forth, as any hotel shuttles will only run during park hours. It shouldn%26#39;t be too expensive though. You could walk to the Doubletree, but it is still quite a distance and crossing Kirkman Road on foot at any time of day can be a challenge, let alone at night. However, there is a crosswalk and sidewalks into Universal if you do decide to walk.
