Thinking of beach vacation

Hi, my husband%26#39;s family vacationed for many years at Pensacola Beach while he was growing up. He always compares their beach with others. In the Bahamas, he said their beaches were OK, but Pensacola was better. I thought a vacation there this summer would be nice as he often talks about his visits there. How are things now? I saw via this site that the Marriott and Hilton are up and running. Any tips or information we need to know? Thanks!!

I am also wondering about the conditions along the gulf in this area. I would like to vacation from 4/15 to 4/22 in Florida with my 7 and 10 year old and looking for a good spot, any advice?

My folks live just south of Gulf Breeze, visited there in Dec. There%26#39;s a good many of the hotels on the beach opening, as are the restaurants. The beach is in good shape in areas. Heading up towards Ft. Pickens, the road is blocked due to washouts. There%26#39;s a lot of construction going on, some on new condos and such. MANY of the privately owned dwellings aren%26#39;t there, nor being worked on. We stayed at the Marriott, which is probably the last hotel on the beach, between there and Navarre. Some of the local shops were beginning to open back up, too.

Thanks for the post. I am trying to decide between the Okaloosa Island area and Sanibel Island. I have a 10 and 7 year old--is there enough to do on Sanibel? What is the current condition of the Fort Walton/Destin area?
