Does anyone have any information on this resort? Reviews seemed ok, but wanted to ask anyway... or does anyone now of any special rate deals? One review mentioned Florida Travler magazine said something about $65 a night for 1br condo - any info on this would be great...Thank you...

If you can find a condo for that rate this time of year, I would have to say that it%26#39;s not going to be very nice.
As for Sailport, it%26#39;s a nice location, close to TIA %26amp; International Plaza (high end shopping %26amp; eateries), decent place.
It is located on the ';Bay%26#39;, so swimming is not as nice as the beaches about 30- 45 minutes further west.
I recommend Ft. DeSoto (voted the one of THE BEST BEACHES)

If you have a car, this is a great location. If you don%26#39;t, you may feel isolated. However, that is a GREAT rate for this place.
My mom and aunt stayed there last year and we all thought it was very nice. I thought that she paid a LOT more. On the up-side, it was clean, comfortable, quiet, plenty of room and it was fun to watch the fish in the bay water below. On the downside, their beach is very little and you are too far to walk to a Gulf beach. There is municipal beach along the causeway but this is not what people generally think of when they come to FL for beaches. They are thin strips of beach that really exist only because of the causeway.
They were only two people so the number of people the room could hold was not a problem but Sailport does count the pull out sofa as accomodation so watch out if you are going to come close to the max occupancy. (I think that is probably pretty standard). There are a few restaraunts in walking distance but that is about it. Sailport is on Rocky Point connected to everything else (and separated from everything else) by the busy Kennedy Blvd, aka 60 just as it becomes the Courtney Campbell Causeway. Walkable restaraunts include Landry%26#39;s, Crabby Bill%26#39;s and the Rusty Pelican (very expensive). Mapquest knows Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL so run a map and you will see what I mean. Sailport is almost at the southern end of Rocky Point Drive.
I honestly would be very hard pressed to call Sailport a resort!! I don%26#39;t quite know how it qualifies as that! They have a pool, but so do most places. They are on Tampa Bay, and as SwimSwamSwum says, sort of isolated otherwise. That beach on the Courtney Campbell is Ben T. Davis and I would not swim there, although people do...lots of them, but it is Tampa Bay. Otherwise it%26#39;s a 40 minute drive to Clearwater Beach...on a good day without spring-break traffic, and although a further distance, about the same drive time to St Pete Beach (easier drive all interstate.)
In FL, especially in season, $65 a night just doesn%26#39;t buy very much, so ';buyer beware';! I lived spitting distance from this place and truly, wild horses could not have gotten me in the water there! the bottom is icky. If you want FL beaches, head out to the beaches area...Clearwater, St Pete, and the areas between. It will be more costly but they are worlds apart.
