Ocean too cold to swim in mid-March?

We%26#39;re visiting mid March and were wondering if we should expect to be able to swim in the ocean and if snorkeling is possible off Marco island?

Don%26#39;t know about snorkeling off Marco Island, but the ocean is too cold to swim based on my past experience. Sometimes, there is cold front and we couldn%26#39;t even play on the beach.

Yes, in March the Gulf is too cold for swimming, although you will see a few hearty souls in there!!!!

There is noting to see off the coast of marco, there is no reef--- snorking may not be a good use of time. There is a few dive companies like scuba adventures you could go diving but would need a wetsuit.
