Coming for 1 day

Ok Lemstar and others- we are coming in for 1 day in March to see the Sarasota area. Our goal is to get a feel for the area and decide if we could live there. What should we do!

Coming for 1 day

For starters, you may want to visit:

www.sarasotamagazine.com

This is an online publication that will give you a chance to do a bit of ';homework'; on the area.

Coming for 1 day

Are you coming from the Sarasota airport?

I have a boring ';must do'; suggestion.

Obviously you%26#39;ll need to drive the area to see a glimpse of the Sota here. I would suggest to drive on 41 up and down one time and check that out. Also take a bridge over to Siesta Key and/or LongBoat Key and drive around.

Sometime do an hour driving adventure: take Fruitville out to I-75, take I-75 North to University and get off, heading back West to the airport. Then take a left onto 301S to get back to Sarasota city centre. Take a Right onto Main street and check out how quaint the city centre is (i.e., there are 4-way stops mixed with stoplighted streets and parking slots on either side of the street...a small town feel, although if you find a parking spot open you may want to throw yourself on it to make sure you have a space if you move here). There is also a huge Whole Foods near Main with their own parking garage. Maybe get out and walk around Main Street. There are a few restaurants and shops, a great bookstore, etc.

There will be spots of construction around town, and some people are trying to buy out the town to put high-priced condos everywhere, but there are still older landmarks.

I really haven%26#39;t driven South of the Westfield Plaza on 301S yet, so I can%26#39;t help you much past there.

If you ever need to ask for directions, remember this: the street ';Honore'; is pronounced ';onner-ay';, the street ';Tamiami'; is pronounced ';Tammy-ammy';, and the street ';Bahia-Vista'; is pronounced ';Baya-Vista.'; I figured out Honore myself, but for the other two I%26#39;ve had some peeps correct me, especially my roommate.

You will find that despite the urban sprawl, it%26#39;s mostly not too bad a drive to get to most places. I don%26#39;t even think twice about meeting someone for lunch in downtown.

And there%26#39;s no Quail hunting here so no one is going to shoot you in the face accidentally.
