Island City House versus Eden House

My husband and I are heading to KW for our first anniversary at the end of June. We have travelled quite a lot over the years and tend to like hotels with local flavor, not a big chain hotel, yet still nice and clean etc. We%26#39;ve been to KW on a cruise but spent the day on a fishing charter and barely walked the town. But I remember the area and we definitely want a room close to Duval St. etc. that we can crawl back to after a long night at the bar. I spend a lot of time researching before we go on trips and have read a lot about Eden House but not as much about Island City. I%26#39;m pretty sure that it%26#39;s down to these two hotels. Can anyone local provide any comparisons between these two places for me???? Thanks!!!!

Island City House versus Eden House

I can%26#39;t really compare, but I really like Island City House. It%26#39;s several blocks closer to Duval, although the area is small enough that that really isn%26#39;t that big an issue. Both times that we stayed at Island City House, we had the room on the third floo of the main house at the back. Right at coconut level. Huge veranda. If I didn%26#39;t think I had to try and stay some where new every time we went down, I%26#39;d be back there.

Island City House versus Eden House

Jeanh - Do you remember exactly which room you had? We are staying At ICH in March and I%26#39;m so curious whether we made a good choice by staying in the Cigar House. We originally had a room in the Main House but the reviews here kept saying the Cigar House was better (quieter and more modern). Just curious if you remember exactly which room you stayed in.

baron116 - I stayed in the Cigar House last month. You will not regret it. I stayed in one of the queen suites on the top floor which, although smaller than the king suites, are much more private. Highly recommended!

Noelle5150 - I%26#39;m afraid I can%26#39;t compare as I haven%26#39;t stayed at Eden House but Island City House is excellent.

You can%26#39;t go wrong with either. I%26#39;m leaning to Island City House for the old buildings and feel. I love Eden House as well. They are just different in good ways. Eden House is a little more kitchy.

I have not stayed at either place so others know better!

No, I don%26#39;t remember the room number. Just tell them you%26#39;re interested on the room on the third floor in the back of the main house. It%26#39;s the only one. The house is fairly long and narrow, so the rooms in front and in back get the verandas. They aren%26#39;t totally private in that people can walk by on their way to the roof top sun deck, but there was very little foot traffic when we were there. And the furniture is just for the use of the people in that particular room.

I%26#39;ve never been in any rooms in the Cigar HOuse, but it looks lovely from the outside.

On our first visit, I woke up to rain one morning. It was pouring. It was still warm and no wind, so our veranda was dry. I went back inside to use the bathroom and left the door to the unit open. When I walked out of the bathroom, there was a cat sleeping on the rug outsdie the bathroom door. I guess he didn%26#39;t want to get wet.

Okay - we%26#39;ll throw a spanner in the works!

Just look at the Gardens Hotel and Simonton Court and book one of these............. both excellent ..........

Thanks for all of the input!! I appreciate it.

With all due respect to bobs1712 and his spanner, based upon your description of what you are looking for, either the Eden or Island City should be fine for you. Island City, though, has a reputation as kid friendly, if this makes a difference. When you%26#39;re down in KW, maybe you should take a look at the Gardens or Simonton Court, and decide if that%26#39;s where you might like to stay next year. And while you%26#39;re at it, check out the Key West Harbor Inn and Marrero%26#39;s, both of which I prefer over the Gardens and Simonton Court.

Ok so all of this talk about the Island City House has made me want to book a room there for my vacation in March. I%26#39;ve got an option on the Cigar House 2nd story room (king suite). Has anyone stayed in the king suite before? Is the 3rd story room that much better? Should we request a room facing the pool? I take it that this B%26amp;B is %26#39;adults only%26#39;?

Are the owners at ICH cool with drinking your own booze around the pool since there is no bar?
